- "Nicarao", name of an Amerindian chief who lived on the Cocibolca Lake (other name for the Nicaraguan Lake). Cocibolca comes from the word "coalt-pol-can" of the Amerindian language Nahuatl which means "place of the big snake", symbol of the Quetzalcóatl god.

- "Agua" (water), Spanish word remembered by the first explorers because of the numerous lakes and lagoons that cover the country.
 

A good amount of history…

8 200 km² big, theNicaraguan Lake, which flows into the Atlantic on the Caribbean coast via the Rio San Juan, is the biggestlake ofCentral America and also one of the biggest in the world.
 

Because of its 170 km long, its 60 km wide, its great depth, its frequent storms and its hundreds of islands, the Spanish conquerors nicknamed this fresh water sea "Mar Dulce".
 

Lots of meaning…

"Dulce" means in Spanish "sweet, fresh".
"Dulce" means for us: "slowly: let’s take the time and respect both the environment and the inhabitants".
